These actually come with a set of really high quality ear plugs as well, which are securely held in place  while wearing the mask.  The mask wraps around to cover your ears, providing some sound isolation.  So if you don’t want complete silence you can simply choose not to wear the sound isolation ear plugs.

The strap connects with velcro, eliminating the uncomfortable and irritating elastic bands typically found on cheap sleeping masks.  This also makes the mask more comfortable for people that have larger, or smaller sized heads.
